These points may be found into the northern Colorado Plateau. They are found westward into the Sacramento River Valley. It is thought that these points originated from the east and migrated west. The age is consistent with the well documented and radiocarbon supported ages for Elko Series dart points and Humboldt Basal Notched thrusting spears, knives and dart points. Therefore we believe those dart point depictions and XRF dates place the Coso projectile point drawings during a range of time from about 2000 BC to AD 1.Two of their interpretations, however, deserve further discussion. (2013) concluded that the Nicholarsen (or Nicolarsen) Cache contains both dart and arrow points. However, our application of methods developed by Hildebrandt and King (2012) to distinguish dart and arrow points, indicates that the Nicholarsen Cache contains arrow points exclusively. 6,800-year-old "Elko-Eared" points identified by Smith et al. ABSTRACT: Veratic Rockshelter (10CL3), located in the Birch Creek Valley on the northern border of the Snake River Plain, has long been considered among the most significant prehistoric sites in southeastern Idaho.
Excavations produced one of the largest prehistoric archaeological assemblages in the state of Wyoming and shed considerable light on the human prehistory of Jackson Hole and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Both types may have a concaved base, but Thomas (1981) distinguished the two types based on the depth of the concaved base.WSA-Survey recently conducted three seasons of excavations at the Game Creek site (48TE1573) in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.P., after which only Elko Corner Notched forms continued. This point is found through-out the Great Basin, into the Snake River Plain and into southeastern Oregon into the Klamath Valley. These points were utilized for a great span of time starting in the Archaic phase and continuing into the Fremont culture.
